We started our journey 5 months after being diagnosed.  We have been living on the road since then.  Traveling, working and homeschooling with 2 kids - 1 with Type 1 since August of 2009.  We are still going.  The biggest thing that makes this all possible is her pretty pink pump, and the Medtronic online software that keeps us connected to our Doctor.  We have a pop-up van and a small travel trailer that we live out of while we rented our house out.  Two years on the road traveling all over the USA and Canada.  Our kids have seen all of the lower 48 states since diagnosis.  The only reason I post this is to tell folks that YES it really is possible to live your dreams and travel with this disease!!! So plan, pack and GET OUT THERE!!!!

Such a cool story.  Are you still traveling now?  If so where are you.  I bet this experience has been a wonderful way to home school the kids.  Good for you!  Keep in touch and let us know how things are going from time to time.

We are still "on the road."  Spending Thanksgiving thru Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa's in North Carolina.  A rare treat!  Next we are headed to Florida for about a month.  Our house is in Montana, so we are trying to stay warm this winter. Homeschooling 1rst grade and preschool.  The kids have seen and done A LOT, they love museums and visitor centers.  Through it all, coast to coast her A1C's remained good and stable.

We are still at it.  Finishing up our 2nd year on the road in another month or so.  Then we'll move back into our house and start the next chapter of our lives.  It's been a fantastic experience!  I think it is really important to teach our children to take care of their diabetes in all kinds of scenarios.  (Not just the same routine day after day.)   I want my daughter to be safe, but not let her diabetes limit what she wants to do in life, or where she wants to go.  There is a whole world out there;  you can get out there and enjoy it and still keep your diabetes in check.
