Recently our school had an ice cream sundae party during lunch.  Prior to the event, the nurse kindly sent home a note with the carbohydrate count of each item in the sundae.  Total carbohydrates were 44g.  My son is on shots and is covered by Novolin during the day.  He needs approximately 60g of carbohydrates for lunch.  So we counted the sundae as most of his lunch and added 1/2 sandwich of Ezekiel bread with almond butter and jelly (sweetened with juice).  You should have seen the grin on his face!  His BG numbers were great and I felt like I hadn't deprived him of celebrating with everyone else.  It made my day!  Anyone have any stories involving food at school?

We are truly blessed with (1) having a full-time school nurse, and (2) having such an involved school nurse.  Shortly after our son was released back to school, besides all the school plans and treatment documents, she bought the Calorie King carb book and we discussed which websites had the best carb information.  During special events, we plan as far out as you have (which is WONDERFUL) but she also measures everything out, looks up the quantities, then calls me for a quick check.  Thank goodness for communication both between her and the my son's teacher and the nurse and me.
