Question posted on FaceBook:

I was wondering if there are any parents that have their child on the OmniPod pump? I just started my daughter on it yesterday and I have a question about the insulin on board feature. I was told that the pump will not tell you how much "food" insulin is active when you test. Is there any way to figure that out..to prevent low blood sugars? Thanks!

From FB Dave-- "Whoever told you there is no IOB feature in the OmniPod calculations needs to go to school again. It's in the manual".

From FB Nakie--"It shows how much insulin is on board from doing a correction, but you will have to go back and see how many units you gave to figure it out totally. For the carb coverage that is".

From FB Aundrea--"The fact that Omnipod doesn't figure meal bolus IOB into their active insulin drives me nuts. This is very frustrating, especially when we need to figure out how much TOTAL IOB we have prior to physical activity, or when treating a bad low--it has to be done manually. Omnipod is the only pump that does not have this feature, to my knowledge. We went from a pump that calculated all of it to the Omnipod and even after a year of it we are still frustrated. Our teen loves the tubeless aspect of it, but we will seriously look at the Solo when it comes out soon because they have the total IOB calculations in their software".

From FB Julie--"We get around the IOB issue by tricking the pdm we enter carbs like we are going to eat and push to the end but instead of saying okay we back up and choose no we are not going to eat and then enter in the amount of insulin it told us to give after the carb entry. Then it keeps track its now habit and now big deal to do. We love love love our pod it has been life changing Jack swims daily with it went into the ocean. I also love the reverse correction setting so nice".
