the first 2 weeks-It is exhausting! My husband and I knew we were definitely to old to have another child when Alex went on the pump! Getting up every 2 hours to do bg checks for 2 weeks . After that it gets easier. My son went on a pump when he was 12, he is now 17. Things I would reccomend you do- The big thing is reminding him to bolus. Make it a habit right away.Alex still forgets sometimes. Have him use  the pump to do the calculations for correct dose. Make sure he rotates where he puts infusion sites . Make sure he has extra sites, batteries, battery caps,  and syringes(in case) in the medical bag you carry. Alex says he never would go back to MDI. He says the pump makes life so much more normal. Good luck.
