Yes my daughter got very sick from faulty insulin.  I believe that the insulin went bad when we went on vacation.  When we got home and changed out her site - her blood became very high by the next morning.  She had large ketones and was vomiting.  I had to go get her new insulin.  It took about 4 hours to get her blood levels back to normal.
