Does anyone use a continuous glucose sensor?

Hi, we do.
We started last July. We use the dexcom, and Love it. It was the best decision we have made in his care so far. Pumping is a close second but the sensor has been a real life changing blessing. It lets us see what is happening and we are so glad we have it.

What questions do you have?

We had looked into it for our 8 year old son when we switched to the pump in October of 2008. However, the size of the sensor being offered by Medtronic was much larger than we had expected and still required him to test his sugar every 2 hours.   Also not covered by insurance as of yet.  What pump are you using?

We use the dexcom, when we looked into the MM sensor, we decided that it was not right for us and that the dexcom would be a better fit for us. As for our pump, we use the Omnipod.

Dexcom requires fingerstick calibrations 1 time every 12 hours ( and unlike MM it will keep giving you readings even if you are busy) . BUT you still check with a fingerstick when high or low , it DOES NOT replace fingersticks. It is to be used to show you trends and alert to possible highs or lows, not to tell you a number to give insulin for, you still have to check to give insulin. The FDA says it is not safe to do that and they state it clearly when they approved ALL cgms for sale on the market

My daughter has a MM pump and CGM and we love it!  Yes you have to calibrate at least every 12 hours, but every time you do a finger stick it asks if you want to calibrate so it is so simple!  I would recommend the Revel model   Smiley
