My daughter was diagnosed T1 since age 6-she's now 13. Approx. 4 yrs ago she was also diagnosed w/seizure disorder. She has tonic clonic (gran mal) seizures which occur w/hormonal fluctuations. A low bg or crashing bg will also trigger myoclonic ("the jerks") activity and a gran mal seizure as well. While antiepileptics appear to reduce the frequency of seizures, this a.m. she had a breakthrough seizure for the first time in about 6 mos. Our lives are not only about being ever vigilant watching for lows (so our A1C range may be a bit higher than most) but also learning to roll with those events (i.e. seizures) that can/do occur even with our best preparation. The combo just wears on us more days than others. Today is one such day.

And here we are a month after this post and today, Halloween, she wakes up to another gran mal. Again, we check and all we are supposed to do has been done (medicine taken-check; bgs-109; sleep-in bed at a decent hour). The good news is she did not hurt herself when she fell out of bed. And there is a pattern that seems to be emerging-hormone fluctuations. And after a nap she brushes herself off and is determined to go to school. It amazes me how resilient our kids are...
