My son has been battling various illnesses the past two
weeks, rashes, stomach bug and bronchitis. His blood sugar has been
pretty high. Yesterday it was well over 500 and would not come down.
The solution was to get new insulin because the insulin had only a
week left until it expired. He is doing better today, but the past
four days, he has been acting as if he is starving. I don’t know if I
should take this as a growth spurt like most parents with two year
olds would, or if there is a problem. Does anyone else have experience
with this?

This is no medical advice since all children are different...and I'm no doctor just a mother of a T1D and I am not to say that you're child isn't growing...However when your child's blood sugar is elevated like say 500...one of the side affects that they tend to have is excessive hunger.  My son when he has elevated blood sugars it's a battle over food.  He cries and carries on.....it's miserable for both he and I cause no parent want to deprive there child of anything or feel like they are anyway...especially food!  When his blood sugar is elevated offer him free snacks.....like cucumbers, some type of vegetable (no carb like corn, potatoes) sugar free popcycles is a good one...Always consult you're doctor though just to make sure every thing is okay......my son has taking grow spurts and has required an insulin increase....but if your child has been sick and battle the bug as you say.....then that's why more than likely his blood sugar levels are elevated.  When he is sick just follow the Sick Day Guidelines that your doctor gave you and don't forget to check for the Ketones!  Best of luck hope your child feels better very soon.   God Bless!
