Went to our New Endo Tuesday. Both kids A1C in the 7, so happy about that. On the other hand both kids didn't gain any weight since last visit so they want to do a celiac blood test. Our foods often are gluten or wheat free. The doctor then said the test wouldn't be accurate. Any thoughts?

A great link posted on the PDK Facebook page I:

"I know this says Mo.gov, but it will give you idea and at the bottom of the page are links to forms to print for the bus driver, teacher, lunchroom staff etc. You can print these pages and hand them out to school staff, they are from the National Diabetes Education Program."

There was this incredible thread on facebook from different folks about how they got additional resources after the insurance company had paid.

We are able to get a 2nd insurance through the state for our son who is t1d. It is called Childrens Special Health insurance. It covers anything that our insurance doesn't for all his diabetic needs. We do have to pay $55/per month for it, but it is worth it. So try and see if there is a program in your state for t1d.

we have to order our pump suplies from www.edgepark.com. When I order through them I only have to pay a co-pay for the supplies - they have animas, medtronic, and different supplies. You can call them and it takes them a few days to get approval from your insurance and then they can tell you if you will only have to pay a copay through them.

He qualifies for medical assistance thru the state for all the copays since he has a lifelong illness.

There is a childrens special needs health insurance that cover chronic illnesses, see if u have that in your state.

If you have anything to add to this thread just hit the POST REPLY.

Pump supplies can be really expensive.  Do you pay out of pocket for your supplies?  Or does your insurance company cover the cost at 100%?
What have you done to bridge the gap and help pay the additional costs after the insurance company?

Something to possibly look into:
We did a seven day trial of the Dexcom seven through our pediatrician. That was most helpful in the insurance process.  The other thing I hope will be helpful is that while going through this process I was in touch with a representative of Dexcom that confirmed that the Dexcom CGM is NOT FDA approved for anyone under 18 (apparently none of them are) but that they were in the process of doing trials to get FDA approval. If we couldn't do the trail through our peds we most definately gone that route.

Are you thinking about health care/insurance once your child turns 18? If your child has already turned 18 what did you do?
