The Oprah Winfrey program on diabetes

If anyone saw this program today, what did you think? I have a 12 year old, she has officially lived as a type 1 diabetic for half her life now. I found this show was a bit misleading and scary.

I didn't see the show but I read about it in yesterday's USA today. There focus was on Type 2. In the article they made a one liner in reference to Type 1.

I only watched a portion of it but I agree, I felt it was misleading and scary. I am just glad my 2 1/2 year old diabetic didn't hear any of it. I felt like they jumped back and forth between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics which seemed misleading. The woman in the beginning was an extreme case and clearly she didn't take care of herself as a type 1 diabetic. I tried to be open minded and consider the source but it really is hard. I think their general message was that control is critical for a full life and if you are at risk for type 2 wake up and lower your risk and if you have type 1, take care of yourself to limit the complications that can occur. My daughter is so young and it pains me to think she could have any of those complications and it makes me even more vigilant in controlling her numbers. That being said we still take it one BG at a time. Its such a difficult and mysterious disease. God Bless everyone who is afflicted by this disease either directly or indirectly.
