It is often very hard to find someone to babysit who understands the dangers and details of diabetes.  www.SafeSittings.com  is an internet based babysitting service that makes available teens who have Type 1 diabetes as babysitters for children with diabetes.
Has anyone used this service to find a babysitter?  Have any of your teens who have Type 1 diabetes been employed by this babysitting service?  Are there other service like this?

F.Y.I. I contacted safesitters and   found out the sitters don't have to have diatetes to sign up but have to understand how to take care of children that have type 1.  So if any of you have teens that are interested have them sign up!

Hi, I just happened to come across this site when helping a mom of a newly diagnosed chilld in the Nashville area.  I have had type 1 for 24 years (I'm 25) I studied nursing and culture and politics at Georgetown University in Washington DC and graduated in 2007.  I have worked as a nurse in Manhattan and I am also a certified pump trainer for all companies.  I have my PNP (nurse practitioner, specializing in pediatrics and chronic illness).

I have worked with children with diabetes since the age of 14 when I became a counselor at an 8 week sleep away diabetes camp.  I worked there for three summer, and then had to get an internship.  I love taking care of and helping families with diabetes because I know how hard it was for my parents to find people that they not only trusted, but who understood.

This past year while working for a pump company I did a lot of overnight babysitting; allowing the parents who check in the middle of the night to sleep and I would come a few nights a week to give them a break.  I have stayed countless times with children for a long weekend so the parents can get time away and 7 times this year traveled as an extra set of hands for diabetes concerns on vacation.  I a also happy to come over so you can go out to dinner, but with 2 Master's degrees, being a Certified Diabetes Educator and pump trainer I would like to assist in any way possible.  I love giving back to ensure that kids have the same safe, fun, experience I did while the parents still felt confident.

Please contact me with  any questions or if you know someone looking for a babysitter who has had a multitude of experiences caring for kids with diabetes.  Hope to speak with you soon.

Hi all! I am a type 1 diabetic living in West LA, getting my doctorate in clinical health psychology. I have been a type 1 for 18 years and have worked with kids in many capacities. I am happy to offer my babysitting services to type 1 parents who understand the need for a knowledgable professional when leaving their little ones.

Additionally, for my doctoral dissertation I am conducting research with female type 1s between the ages of 12-20 wearing an insulin pump. I am hoping you or someone you know would be willing to participate in a one hour interview. (I am offering compensation)

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding either of my posts! ajtullman@gmail.com
All my best, Ashley
