My son is eleven and was diagnosed T1 1/17/2009 at 9yrs.  He takes humalog and lantis.  Though we are considering the pump, we haven't taken that step yet.  L manages his testing and shots and is beginning to count carbs.  My husband is also T1 as was his father.  The last year has been harder than the first, as L moved out of the honeymoon phase, it became more difficult to find foods that satisfy his appetite without cause bg spikes.  We have a great deal to be thankful for, but at times, I do get discouraged.  School, my husbands example, supply costs, his desire for independence and my need to supervise, well meaning but poorly informed people.....it can get to be a lot.

My son is 12 and was diagnosed 6-28-2006....I agree, it does get discouraging sometimes but then we'll have an easy day and things will just fall into place and it makes things better for awhile.  He alternates between a pump and shots (pump during the school year and insulin pens for the summer.).
